WE BELIEVE THAT EXCELLENT DESIGN IS BUILT UPON A FOUNDATION OF UNDERSTANDING

The Architect (in this case, also the client) provided a series of challenges to ensure that his cottage would never be described as "ordinary". The outdoor landscape reflects the Architect's playful use of form by borrowing and abstracting the geometry of the house and extending it into the landscape all the way to the far reaches of the property. This was accomplished by the rhythmic placement of granite squares on an eroded grid of meaningful nodes throughout the landscape.
